After the controversial Formula 1 final, Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes team decided not to appeal, so Max Verstappen's first world championship title was no longer in danger.

As the Silver Arrows announced on Thursday, they will no longer take action against the result of the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

Red Bull star Verstappen won it thanks to an overtaking maneuver against Hamilton in the last lap and thus secured the title.

Mercedes then protested against two alleged violations of the sporting regulations of the World Automobile Federation (FIA), both objections were rejected by the race stewards.

The factory team then announced its intention to appeal again - this is formally necessary in order to actually take the next legal steps within 96 hours.

Mercedes will no longer make use of this right.

“To Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing: We would like to express our sincere respect for your successes this year.

You made this season an absolutely epic Formula 1 title fight ", it said in a message:" Max, we congratulate you and your entire team warmly.

We look forward to continuing our competition next season. "
