France became too difficult for Sweden.

The reigning Olympic champions pulled away in the second half and put an end to Sweden's World Cup adventure.

- It is a reminder that we have things to work with.

We meet a good opposition that controls the match in the second half.

They use their strengths in a way that we can not, says national team captain Tomas Axnér after the match.

Despite the exit in the quarter finals, Sweden has two strong championships behind them.

Next, a European Championship final awaits next year.

Axnér believes that Sweden needs more leadership to take the next step.

- When it comes to France, Norway and the other top nations, they have an individual edge that we do not have.

We build a lot on the collective and the way we play together.

They have many players with X-factor.

We need to find some complement to this squad that can do a few other things.

For example, we miss shooting.

There are things in the long run that we should be able to add to become a little more toxic and a little sharper.

Aiming for Olympic medal 2024

Tomas Axnér has a contract until after the Olympics in Paris 2024. He has a clear goal that Sweden should belong to the absolute top and be able to challenge for medals during the Olympic Games.

- We want to establish ourselves among the four, five best in the world.

We want to be there at every championship and try to take a medal in 2024. That is the long-term goal.

We have shown that we belong to the world top, but that work continues here and now at the moment while we look forward to 2024.
