A bold government decision threatens to permanently stop the French League matches due to "riot"

The French government announced today, after a meeting with football representatives in the country, that any match in the first or second division "will stop permanently" when a player or referee is injured by a projectile fired from the stands.

In the event of a riot in the stadium, an independent crisis unit that does not include the heads of the relevant clubs will have to decide, within a maximum of 30 minutes, the fate of the match, according to a statement signed by the Ministers of Interior, Sports and Justice.

The Executive Trio met yesterday morning with the President of the French Football Federation (LFP) Vincent Labron, Noel Le Graet, President of the French Football Federation, as well as representatives of referees, clubs, players and governors.

These decisions come as a result of the meetings of a cell that began work on November 23, two days after the meeting of Lyon and Marseille stopped because the latter's leader, Dimitri Payet, was hit in the head by a plastic water bottle thrown from the stands.

The government announced a ban on the sale and carrying of plastic bottles in football stadiums, as of "a date no later than July 1, 2022", and there will be strict monitoring and penalties to prevent "the introduction, possession and use of projectiles or fireworks."

In addition, all first- and second-tier clubs must have "anti-ballistic security devices", such as a security fencing, from the 2022-2023 season, which can be placed during certain matches on the recommendation of the governors.
