Serge Gnabry trotted off the lawn after 74 minutes on Tuesday evening.

He did it slowly and leisurely, like a tired professor on an evening stroll.

He was in no hurry because at that point his team was already leading 5-0.

The FC Bayern winger quickly disappeared in the belly of the Stuttgart arena.

He did without big and exuberant cheering scenes, maybe at that moment he remembered his time as a ball boy in Bad Cannstatt, when the stadium was still full with many spectators and he dreamed of a career as a professional footballer.

This time only 750 visitors were allowed due to the corona. And the few regretted coming. Because Bayern were too good, especially Gnabry, who once still wore the shirt with the red chest ring when he was young. In the end, he met three times against the favorite opponents of Munich, the other goals to 5-0 scored - of course - Robert Lewandowski. "Serge plays very, very well," said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann afterwards, "he is an outstanding player who recently had to struggle with back problems."

To call VfB Bayern's favorite opponent is almost an understatement.

The victory is usually certain beforehand when Munich and Stuttgart meet, it's all about the level of success.

This was Bayern's 67th victory against VfB.

Nice side aspect: the Munich team secured the autumn championship on a gentle cycle - for the 25th time in their club's history.

But before the game, Nagelsmann was interested in something else.

Could he have Jamal Musiala in central defensive midfield or not?

The national player had broken his metacarpal bone.

With a special splint, he was finally able to do his work there, where Joshua Kimmich (Corona) and Leon Goretzka (back problems) have been missing for weeks.

And Musiala started off just as energetically as his teammates.

The spectators in the Stuttgart arena cheered every successful duel of their team like a goal, because VfB was mainly busy keeping Bayern away from their own goal on the hard-to-play and furrowed lawn.

The Munich team sometimes combined quickly and well through midfield into the penalty area.

Only with the goal closure it did not work out really well at first.

After half an hour Bayern had already shot nine times on goal - but only one real scoring chance through Gnabry.

After a long blow from Benjamin Pavard Gnabry ran towards the Stuttgart goalkeeper Florian Müller.

But Müller anticipated the following Lupfer, made himself very long and fought off twice with his fingertips.

And the VfB? Only occasionally came near Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who sometimes kept warm with nice gymnastic contortions. Omar Marmoush appeared in front of him once, but the shot went wide. It was then Leroy Sané, who replaced the injured Kingsley Coman in the 27th minute, who finally released Gnabry on the half-left so that Gnabry gratefully accepted the opportunity (40th). It was a ravishingly beautiful flick of the national player into the far corner of the 1-0 break lead.

In the dressing room, VfB coach Matarazzo must have found the right words. In the first minutes of the second half it almost looked as if the American had called up eleven new players, they played like a substitute, much more courageously, although the same players were on the field. Wataru Endo (47th) and Philipp Förster (48th) had good chances to score. But Gnabry, who was wonderful that evening, ended the very short intermediate high humorlessly with his second goal (53rd) after he had casually played Marc Oliver Kempf.

Gnabry was then in a great mood against now overwhelmed Stuttgarter.

The 26-year-old also presented Lewandowski's two goals (69th / 72nd) before he scored 5-0 with his ninth goal of the season (74th).

“Serge's templates were also worth seeing.

He had recently played less than he deserved, ”said Nagelsmann, praising the player of the evening.

And while Munich can look forward to the autumn championship, the situation in Stuttgart remains tense for the time being.
