A seventh world championship title, infected by covid-19, a great commitment to racism and for diversity and by the British voted as the sports personality of the year.

2020 has been meaningful for Lewis Hamilton, who can now also call himself "Sir".

The motorist is one of the many Britons who on the penultimate day of the year receive honorary awards or, like Hamilton, are honored.

Hamilton took eleven GP victories in Formula 1 this year and now has the most partial victories of all time.

His seventh world title also means that he has touched Michael Schumacher's seven World Cup victories in the sport.

But it seems to be at least as much Hamilton's work for equality that is behind the award.

He has been a champion of equality, anti-racism and diversity through his commitment alongside racing.

Johnson was on

He will now be the fourth F1 driver to be ennobled.

Three British F1 drivers have previously been knighted, after the British Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart and the Australian Jack Brabham.

According to The Guardian, a big question mark has been over Hamilton's possible nobility - that he is written in Monaco for tax reasons.

The newspaper states that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has personally committed himself to overcoming that obstacle.

Other athletes who receive awards from the Queen include footballers Jimmy Greaves, Ron Flowers and Gillian Coultard, all of whom receive the MBE Medal of Honor, the lowest level of medals.

Flowers is the last now alive of all in England's World Cup winning team in 1966 to be honored, Coultard was the first English women's player to play one hundred international matches.
