Golden States faced New York last night away in Madison Square Garden in the North American basketball league.

The conditions were simple: Curry needed to score two three-pointers to overtake former record holder Ray Allen, who has knocked in 2,973 three-pointers during his NBA career.

33-year-old Curry wasted no time and fixed the first three-pointer after just 64 seconds.

He missed the second attempt, but with seven minutes and 33 seconds left of the first quarter, he measured a throw from just over eight meters and his 2,974 three-pointer a fact.

The new record holder received a long tribute from the opposing crowd in Madison Square Garden and was hugged by both his parents, teammates - and Ray Allen, whose record stood for ten years.

- I had a fantastic support here, says Curry in the interview after the match, and pays tribute to the audience in the arena.

- This was a very, very, very special evening, he concludes.

In the end, it was 22 points and three more three points for Curry.

The new three-point record is thus 2,977. Golden States won the match 105-96.

As recently as a little over a month ago, Curry set another record, when he became the oldest player in the NBA to score 50 points and 10 assists in one and the same game.

Thanks to Stephen Curry's great form, the Golden States have been virtually unstoppable in the NBA this season.

The San Fransicso team leads the league with 23 wins and only five losses.
