Holund will compete in Davis' World Cup competition over 15 km free on Sunday.

Then it will only be training until the start of the Olympics in skiathlon over 30 km in Beijing on February 6, then 57 days have passed.

He will thus skip the Tour de Ski and the World Cup competitions in Les Rousses (France) and Planica (Slovenia) in January.

And national competitions at home.

- I am not a person who needs to compete to get in shape.

I might as well do a test run.

I do not have to compete to be in top shape for the Olympics, says Holund to NRK.

Got the go-ahead for second place in Lillehammer

The 32-year-old was second in last weekend's 15 km freestyle in Lillehammer, 1.6 seconds behind compatriot Simen Hegstad Krüger.

They stood in a class of their own.

That race meant that Holund can now complete his extreme plan before the Olympics.

- Had it not gone so well there, I would not have been able to implement plan A. Had I not shown such a good form message, the road to the Olympics would have been much more crooked, says Holund.

Norway has not taken out its Olympic squad, but according to NRK, Holund must have received advance notice that he already has his place ready.

- Over the years, Hans Christer has come to the conclusion that he responds well to training only, says length trainer Eirik Myhr Nossum.

Therese Johaug is in charge of the Tour de Ski but plans to compete in Les Rousses 14-16 February.
