A famous French Olympic champion was arrested on charges of raping a minor

French police have arrested former Olympic champion Yannick Aniel as part of an investigation on charges of "rape and sexual assault of a 15-year-old minor," the Mulhouse Public Prosecutor's Office (Hu-Rhin) told AFP.

Edwig Roe Morezo revealed that the 29-year-old, the famous swimmer and winner of the 200m freestyle and 4x100m relay gold at the 2012 London Olympics, in addition to being crowned world champion in these two races in 2013, was arrested "in Paris and taken to custody in Mulhouse" based on an authorization judicial.

The public prosecutor said that a complaint was filed against Aniel last summer for facts dating back "around 2016".

Aniel obtained a license at the "Mulhouse Olympic" swimming club in September 2014, before leaving it in the summer of 2016 after the Olympic Games in Rio.

Since retiring from swimming in 2016, Aniel has moved to electronic sports and appears regularly in various media, and he was a prominent advisor to the "France Television" network during the Tokyo Olympics last summer.
