Abdullahi Dahir Rabi won the junior class at the Nordic Championships in Tullinge outside Stockholm by far a month ago.

He was a big Norwegian hope before the European Championships in Dublin on Sunday.

He could carry on Jakob Ingebrigtsen's winning streak, but that will not happen.

- I was sitting at home watching the Champions League when my coach called.

I was completely shocked.

I did not understand anything.

I thought he was joking first, Rabi told NRK about the disappointing message he received on Tuesday night.

Rabi has lived in Norway for seven years and was granted Norwegian citizenship on 30 September this year.

But despite this, his license has been Somali and that means he can not run for Norway in the terrain European Championships.

Received the go-ahead on 24 November

On November 24, the Norwegian Athletics Federation received the go-ahead for Rabi to be able to represent Norway at the European Championships by the International Athletics Federation - if a panel that would deal with the transition was completed in time.

It has not had time to do so, will not be ready before Christmas.

- I prepared to run.

I thought there was no stress, says Rabi to NRK.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, 21, makes his first start as a senior in the terrain European Championships after four straight junior titles.

The Olympic champion in the 1500 meters is also joined by his big brother Filip, who had major problems after the side effects of covid-19.

SVT broadcasts from the European Terrain Championships in Dublin starting at 14.10 on SVT Play on Sunday.

This is how SVT Sport broadcasts this week.
