The General Sports Authority, in a statement issued yesterday, approved the heads of sports federations for the period 2020-2024, with the adoption of the name “Union”, and the abolition of the names of associations and committees.

Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, said: “We are fully confident in the ability of the cadres of the sports federations to succeed in performing their tasks, work side by side, and contribute tangibly to embodying the trends of the important interim period witnessed by UAE sport in order to achieve the supreme goal that we seek. To all of them, represented by raising the flag of the nation flapping high in all sporting forums and entitlements.”

He pointed out that "Emirati women have proven their worth and distinction in the largest positions and various tasks, and they are able to lead the helm of sports federations, and engage in various fields of sports work in a pioneering manner," noting that the General Sports Authority believes in the role of women in sports work, in line with the UAE strategy. And the Fifty Principles, which stipulate in the fourth item that the main engine of future growth is human capital, which is achieved, as women enjoy a large share of human capital, in comparison to the rates of their participation in decision-making centers and various institutions and bodies in the country.

Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi also heads the Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, the Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, Muhammad bin Thaloub Al Derei, the Wrestling and Judo Federation, and Dr. Rima Muhammad Al Hosani, the National Anti-Doping Agency.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan heads the Sailing and Rowing Federation, Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the Marine Sports Federation, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hasher Al Maktoum, Shooting Federation, Muhammad Khalaf Al Habtoor, the Polo Sports Federation, Muhammad Nasser bin Khammas Weightlifting Federation, and Abdullah Sultan Al Matroushi Hockey Federation, and Muhammed Mubarak Al Mutaiwee Squash Federation.

Ahmed Al Falasi:

5 new federations enhance the role of sport in sustainable development

The General Sports Authority has also approved the formation of the board of directors for five new sports federations, which are launching their first business for the first time within the elite of the well-known sports federations in the country.

The sports federations, which the authority approved the heads of its boards of directors, include the Canoe and Rafting Federation headed by Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun bin Muhammad Al Nahyan, and the Darts Federation headed by Khalifa Sultan Al Mutaiwee, in addition to the presence of the female component at the head of three sports federations, and they are Dr. Mai Al Jaber to head the Badminton Federation. Dr. Huda Al-Matrooshi to head the Modern Pentathlon Union, and Dr. Amna Al-Mazmi to head the Netball Federation.

The authority also approved the merging of the Emirates School Sports Federation and the Emirates University Sports Federation, under the umbrella of one federation under the name "The United Arab Emirates Sports Federation for School and University Education Institutions".
