Bundesliga club RB Leipzig has reacted to the disappointing season so far and coach Jesse Marsch has split up.

That was announced by the championship runner-up this Sunday, two days after the bitter 1: 2 (1: 1) bankruptcy at Union Berlin.

The third defeat in the Bundesliga and missing the knockout round in the Champions League were the American's undoing. Marsch (48), like his co-trainer Achim Beierlorzer, was absent from Berlin due to a corona quarantine. The coach in charge was the second assistant, Marco Kurth. RB Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff then spoke of a “desolate performance” and announced a “tough analysis”.

Marsch only took over the office last summer from Julian Nagelsmann (to Bayern Munich).

As a former coach of sister club Red Bull Salzburg, he wanted to move away from possession of the ball to the typical RB pressing soccer ball.

But a clear concept could not be seen on the pitch, and Marsch found no solutions to the enormous fluctuations in performance of the heavily occupied squad.
