Tim Erixon, who won Swedish Championship gold with Växjö this spring, was not too depressed the minutes after his previous team defeated the current one.
- A little snotty, but we have something to build on, Erixon says to TT.
Timråbacken is undeniably justified in his claim that the newcomer has recently grown as an SHL team.
The team started the season so weak that for a while they seemed to be cemented firmly below the qualifying line, but in connection with the national team break, something has happened.
Six victories in the last eight matches have given close contact with several other teams around the qualifying line and the bottom playoff line.
Rattie two-goal shooter
The last time the teams met, in September in Medelpad, Växjö scored six goals and won clearly.
This time, Timrå kept a clean sheet during the first two periods of the match.
- Another defensive game now from our side, says Tim Erixon.
Barely halfway into the match, Timrå took the lead, through a goal by Ty Rattie in powerplay.
At the beginning of the third period, Martin Lundberg equalized for Växjö, a goal that guaranteed a highly dramatic end to the match.
With 1.20 left of the third period, Timrå played powerplay, which resulted in Ty Rattie scoring his and the team's second goal of the day.
When Växjö on Thursday, through a win in Linköping, made sure that the team's losing streak stopped at five matches, Olle Lycksell became the team's winner.
This time, Lycksell only stepped into the action with 13 seconds left in the third period.
- So nice, it is among the best emotions in a team when you manage to score in game six against five, he says.
Match hero again
In the long run, Växjö created a couple of high-scoring goal chances, but did not succeed in deciding.
The match went to a penalty shootout which the home team won.
Who became the main protagonist of the punishment?
Olle Lycksell, of course.
Lycksell missed his first penalty, but when a fourth penalty was needed to separate the teams, he received renewed confidence from his coach Sam Hallam.
- I was a little shocked when I had to quit.
Växjö has now won two matches within three days.
- We have had a tougher period in terms of results.
Two really nice victories, now we can start building on something wonderful, says Olle Lycksell.
