Partly thanks to the first goal in Italian service by Denzel Dumfries, Internazionale won 0-3 against AS Roma on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, AC Milan was 2-0 too strong for Salernitana.

Five minutes before half time, Dumfries scored the third goal for the reigning champion with a nice header.

The right back was not always sure of a base place in his first months in Italy, but due to a groin injury from competitor Matteo Darmian, the former PSV player will have the opportunity to prove himself in the coming week.

Inter decisively dealt with Jose Mourinho's team.

Hakan Calhanoglu opened the score after fifteen minutes and ten minutes later Edin Dzeko made it 0-2 in Stadio Olimpico.

Rick Karsdorp was absent from Roma due to a suspension.

The team is fifth and loses the tie with the first four teams.

Inter are second, one point behind AC Milan, although Napoli can still take over first place later on Saturday evening if it wins at home to number four Atalanta (kick-off 8.45 pm).

Milan dedicates victory at last to Kjaer

AC Milan dedicated the 2-0 win against last-placed Salernitana to the injured defender Simon Kjaer.

The 32-year-old Dane suffered a serious knee injury this week and is expected to be out of circulation for six months.

During the warm-up, the Milan players wore shirts that read 'Forza Simon'.

Belgian goalscorer Alexis Saelemaekers showed Kjaer's shirt after his goal in the eighteenth minute.

A few minutes earlier, Franck Kessié had already given Milan the lead.

Closer Salernitana did not let it get any further after that early 2-0 deficit and limited the damage.

Milan booked a trouble-free victory and was able to leave routine Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench.
