After turbulent days on the Weser, Werder Bremen clinched the highest win of the season under new coach Ole Werner.

In the first game directed by the 33-year-old Bremen won against Erzgebirge Aue 4-0 (2-0) and gave the new hopefuls a satisfactory start.

Werner had only succeeded Markus Anfang, who resigned due to the affair surrounding the falsified vaccination certificate, at the beginning of the week.

In front of 15,024 spectators in the cold, wet Weserstadion, Romano Schmid (7th minute) and Milos Veljkovic (19th) gave the North Germans the lead before the break.

Marvin Ducksch (53rd) and Niclas Füllkrug (57th) increased after the break.

The Bremen team under the fourth coach in the fourth game like freed.

The new coach had appointed two new players in Schmid and Veljkovic - and both thanked them with their first goals of the season.

Schmidt slipped the ball wonderfully into the top right corner of the Aue goal in the seventh minute.

Twelve minutes later, Veljkovic made it 2-0 with a spectacular goal with the hoe.

Coach Hensel in the stands

Bremen had the game under control right from the start and convinced at times with a nice and fluid combination game.

“First of all, I used a lot of what was already available in the team and also only turned one or the other adjustment screw,” Werner said modestly on Sky TV before the game.

But after the unsuccessful changes made by interim coach Christian Brand at 1: 2 in Kiel a week ago, Werner seemed to have found the right words and ideas in the few days leading up to the game.

The 33-year-old, who almost led Holstein Kiel into the first division, was already a candidate in Bremen in the summer.

With a little delay, he only made his debut on the sidelines - and how.

Because even before the break, Leonardo Bittencourt could have extended the lead of the hosts, but only hit the post.

Ducksch did better after the break when he increased Füllkrug to 3-0 after a nice pass from his strike partner.

There was nothing to be seen of the guests, where coach Marc Hensel was only allowed to watch from the stands because of his fourth yellow card and was represented by Pavel Dotchev.

Werder had such an easy game and scored the fourth goal thanks to the strong filling mug.

Aue only became dangerous when Dmitri Nazarov hit the bar (75th).

Düsseldorf wins in Darmstadt

SV Darmstadt 98 suffered a setback in the promotion campaign. The Hessians lost against Fortuna Düsseldorf in their home stadium at Böllenfalltor with 1: 3 (0: 2) and missed the possible jump to the top of the table. Rouwen Hennings (16th), an own goal by Klaus Gjasula (41st) and Khaled Narey (76th) sealed the first bankruptcy for Darmstadt in seven games in front of 12,450 spectators in the stadium at Böllenfalltor. Phillip Tietz's goal (85th / foul penalty) only had statistical value.

The home side set the first offensive signal with a header from Gjasula (2nd) on the outside post. After that, however, Fortuna controlled the game and became safer by the minute. The second chance led to the leadership of the Rhinelander by Hennings, who flicked the ball from the edge of the penalty area into the lower right corner. Hennings was also involved in the second goal: Gjasula falsified his long-range shot so that it was untenable for Marcel Schuhe, the Darmstadt goalkeeper.

After the change, the Darmstadt team became stronger, but could not use their opportunities.

Tietz had the best chance, who only hit the post.

Düsseldorf became safer again in the final phase.

First Christoph Klarer (70th) hit the crossbar with his head, then Narey made the decision from 17 meters.

Philipp Tietz (85th) still scored from the penalty spot for Darmstadt, but Düsseldorf's concentrated defending didn’t let any tension arise.
