Since arriving in Monterrey last June, Florian Thauvin has not always said “you” to happiness.
But the 2018 world champion was decisive on Wednesday night in the Tigers' success over Leon (2-1), in the semi-finals of the opening tournament of the Mexican championship.
Entered in the 65th minute, Thauvin equalized in the 90th with a superb acrobatic recovery from the left, in a deafening atmosphere.
The Tigers finally won thanks to a goal in stoppage time (90th + 5) from Paraguayan striker Carlos Gonzalez, perfectly served with a header by André-Pierre Gignac.
The return leg will take place in Leon on Saturday evening (Sunday at 4 a.m. KST).
“Dédé” Gignac, a local icon, is looking for a fourth coronation in the opening tournament, after 2015, 2016 and 2017.
