Richard Ohlqvist has been a football coach for over 30 years.

He has coached teams in all series except the Allsvenskan and the Superettan, and was involved in founding Malmö FF's football academy - and has thereby been involved in educating players such as Oscar Lewicki, Mattias Svanberg and Anel Ahmedhodzic.

In 2019, he took over Kvarnby IK, which then played in division 3, but left the series with a bang.

After the relegation, the team's goalkeeper was prosecuted and convicted in the district court for receiving bribes for the team to lose, in connection with people in his vicinity investing money in Kvarnby losing.

The player has always denied any wrongdoing and on November 29, the court of appeal proceedings began in the case.

"Shock condition"

In the series Kvarnbyfallet, Ohlqvist tells about the season, and the shock when the suspicions were discovered.

- When we talked to each other, we just said: "What?

So, no!

This can not be true! ”

Then when the suspicions came, the association ended up in a state of shock, he says in the series.

"Has spread"

Ohlqvist, who was principal at Malmö Idrottsgrundskola for several years, hopes, however, that the events will lead to something good.

- Regardless of the level of your association, you should assume that you will inform and train players, and often also guardians, that this is a phenomenon that has spread.

And then I talk about gambling as such, that one should be observant that this is not something that happens to a syndicate in another country, he says, and continues:

- I myself have thought so before, but I have now understood that it can be much closer than you think.

So it is important that everyone understands that it can happen to us as well.

"Bombed with gambling"

In his role close to young people for many years, Ohlqvist has seen up close how the gambling of money around football has spread, and he says that he now hopes that what happened in Kvarnby can lead to change.

- I would like the big players and the big stars to think about their participation in this.

We do not often advertise for alcohol in Sweden, but we do advertise for gambling.

- But it is addiction as addiction, one is probably as dangerous as the other.

I would like those who reach out to the broad masses to think about their participation in this.

Not only should we at the grassroots level have the moral compass, but everyone can have it.
