An Argentine soccer referee has accused a Lanos club player of threatening him with death if he referees matches for his team again, according to a report submitted by the referee to the police.
The alleged incident occurred during a match between Lanus and Racing the day before yesterday, Monday, during which Racing, the owner of the land, won 3-1, extending Lanus' unwinnable career to 4 matches.
According to a police report seen by Reuters, referee Dario Herrera accused Lanos striker Lautaro Acosta of using abusive language, and of telling him: "You are corrupt. If you manage any match for us again I will kill you."
The referee informed the police after the match in Appianeda, a suburb of Buenos Aires.
An assistant to the president of Lanus said he would not comment on the matter.
Acosta did not respond to a request for comment.
The Argentine Referees Association called for a "deterrent punishment" against the 33-year-old former Seville, Racing Santander and Boca Juniors player.
"This cannot happen, what Acosta did is unacceptable," Federico Belgui, director of the federation, told Argentine television.
