Tomorrow, Wednesday, the World Handball Championship kicks off in Spain.

Sweden enters the championship only on Friday and during Monday night, the national team captain Tomas Axnér presented the final squad.

Olivia Mellegård, Linnea Pettersson and Daniela de Jong were previously selected as extra players and have settled for the last two places.

Now it is clear that it is Olivia Mellegård and Daniela de Jong who get the chance in the WC.

- We chose to keep the last two places open to after the matches and training in Sweden feel the status of the squad and see where our needs are greatest and there we have landed in Olivia and Daniela going to Spain, says national team captain Tomas Axnér to the handball association's website.

Thus, Linnea Pettersson can follow the championship from home.

- The dialogue with Linnea has always been good, although of course it is sad to have to leave a negative message.

However, she is prepared at home if something should happen down in Spain and we have additional players in the gross squad who may be called in in the event of injuries or illnesses, Tomas Axnér continues.

Sweden will thus play the first match in the championship on 3 December.

Then Uzbekistan stands for the opposition.

The same group also includes the reigning world champions the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.
