Meerkamp star Nadine Broersen is expecting her first child in May, she reports on Instagram on Monday.

The 31-year-old athlete, who has already represented the Netherlands three times at the Olympic Games, wants to pick up her top sport career after birth.

"Next year will be different from other years, but very special," Broersen writes about her pregnancy.

"I'm training as best I can with eyes for the Paris Olympics in 2024."

Broersen already has a long athletic career with the world indoor title in the pentathlon in 2014 in Sopot as one of the highlights.

Later that year, she took European Championship silver outdoors in the heptathlon in Zurich.

Broersen's first Games were in London in 2012. She finished twelfth in the all-around in the British capital and four years later she was thirteenth in Rio de Janeiro.

Last summer in Tokyo, she did not finish the Olympic all-around due to physical problems.
