Werder Bremen is losing sight of the promotion places in the 2nd Bundesliga after the corona whirlwind.
The relegated Bundesliga lost the north duel at Holstein Kiel 1: 2 (0: 1) and is already eight points behind the relegation rank.
With the fourth win of the season, Kiel gained some space in the table and improved to twelfth place.
Joshua Mees (45th) and Benedikt Pichler (65th) scored the goals for Kiel.
Niclas Füllkrug (57th) had meanwhile equalized.
The hosts got off to a stormy start.
Phil Neumann (4th) shot past, Fabian Reese (10th) failed to Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka.
But the guests didn't hide either.
Marvin Ducksch (15th) found his master in goalkeeper Thomas Dähne.
The pace remained high, both teams acted aggressively.
But Pichler (28th) didn't get the ball past Pavlenka either.
Shortly before the break, the hosts cheered.
After a cross from Neumann, Mees, who was substituted on for the injured Reese, scored with a drop-off that was worth seeing.
Bremen increased the pressure after the change and had a lot of possession, but Kiel remained dangerous.
A deflected shot from Neumann just missed the target, a header from Hauke Wahl (both 56th) saved Pavlenka.
The compensation fell after an unfortunate excursion by Dähne.
Füllkrug lifted the ball into the empty goal.
Kiel was only shocked for a short time and took the lead again through Pichler after a shot from the post by Alexander Mühling.
