SVT Sport has exclusively been behind the scenes when Hanna Öberg this summer and autumn worked to rectify the energy shortage she felt the consequences of during periods last year.

One of the things she has discovered together with nutritional physiologist Linda Bakkman is that her energy intake in the evening was not always enough for her body to recover sufficiently during the night's rest during the tough training and competition periods.

- To be without food for a whole night, for nine to ten hours, it is a very long time.

So I really have to make sure to eat a good evening coffee so as not to risk becoming catabolic and destructive during the night, Hanna Öberg explains.

During the Swedish Biathlon Championships this August, Hanna Öberg did, among other things, a glucose measurement, a measurement that can give an indication of whether the carbohydrate intake is good enough.

And despite a hearty dinner with dessert and evening meal after the Swedish Championships, the measured values crept below the limit at night.

- I thought I filled up well and I also had a pretty good appetite during dinner after the competition, so it is very interesting that I was still and touched a little low during the night, says Öberg to nutritional physiologist Bakkman.

"It was a little embarrassing"

According to Hanna Öberg, her energy needs have increased because her ability to get out has improved.

A new level of recovery was required last year, but she made no major changes.

An energy deficit - a knowledge gap - arose.

- For me, it has never been about an eating disorder or that I tried to lose weight actively by getting in me less.

It really has not been, says Hanna Öberg in the SVT series.

But it has been a reminder to never relax when it comes to food and energy intake, which she also wants to highlight:

- I almost think it was a bit embarrassing.

That I, who think I have pretty good control, have ended up in a situation where I got too little energy in me.

I really do not want to be the one who is there, but I want to take care of this in the best way possible.

For me, it is a very important topic to make sure I eat enough, feel good and make sure that my investment is sustainable and in balance.
