Conte makes fun of what is being said that he spends a lot of money

Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte has mocked what is being said about him that he has to spend money to harvest trophies.

Conte took over at Spurs three weeks ago and has already made clear he has reservations about how far his side can go.

The British news agency "BA Media" reported that the Italian coach was close to coaching the team in the summer, but negotiations stopped after it was indicated that Conte was asking for large sums of money.

But the 52-year-old, who has had success with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan, says Romelu Lukaku is the only player he has asked.

"It makes me laugh," Conte said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. "Let me tell you something that in the end of my career I bring money, not spend it."

And he added: “Often I coached young players, athletes who were neglected or rebuilt, players who never won until then.”

He stressed, "All the players who have been re-evaluated, thanks to my work. In my career, I only asked to sign a player who gets a big salary."
