A Cuban woman makes shocking accusations against the late Maradona and his aides

A Cuban woman who had an affair with the late Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona when she was a minor 20 years ago has accused the soccer star and his fan of committing acts of violence and abuse against her, including rape and detaining her against her will. Mavis Alvares Rego, 37, who currently lives in Miami, spoke Monday in front of the press in the capital, Buenos Aires, about her meeting with Maradona when she was 16 years old, while the Argentine star was in his forties living in Cuba, where he was Undergoing drug treatment.

She claimed that Maradona, who died of a heart attack a year ago at the age of 60, pushed her to take cocaine.

"I loved him, but I hated him too, and I even thought about suicide," she said.

Maradona is considered one of the greatest footballers in history, as he inspired and led Argentina to win the World Cup in Mexico in 1986. The soccer icon died last year after undergoing brain surgery due to a blood clot, and after decades of battles with cocaine and alcohol addiction.

Alvares Rego, a mother of two children aged 15 and 4 years, added that her relationship with Maradona lasted "between 4 and 5 years", but she was abused.

She alleged that during a trip to the Argentine capital with Maradona in 2001, she was held against her will for several weeks in a hotel by Maradona's entourage, prevented from going out alone and forced to undergo a breast augmentation.

Several other incidents of physical violence were reported.

Alvarez Rego did not file a complaint herself, but this week in Buenos Aires she submitted evidence to the Argentine public prosecutor in connection with a complaint filed by an Argentine NGO.

The organization, called the Peace Foundation, filed the complaint after reviewing its confessions in the US media in recent weeks.

The complaint relates in particular to human trafficking, deprivation of liberty, forced labour, assault and battery.

Five members of the delegation accompanying Maradona, through their lawyers, denied any involvement in these mentioned facts.

One of them filed a counter-complaint against the NGO for defamation and slander.
