A sixth place in Saturday's 15 km classic and just over a minute and a half behind the winner Leo Johansson yesterday.

Despite Calle Halfvarsson's dubious premiere weekend, Mathias Fredriksson thinks that the national ski team's selection of the 32-year-old is correct.

- He will have a place in the team in the world cup premiere, but on the other hand I am not impressed with his effort during the weekend in Gällivare where it was far below what I had hoped he would perform, he says and continues:

- Especially on Sunday, where he was far too far behind.

Why should he join?

- There is a lack of competition.

Many of the other established riders do not get there, so I think he should have a place as one of the experienced.

Now we have a squad with many new names, which is gratifying, but it is good that he is with and gets the chance to go faster than he did in Gällivare.

"Not at all surprising"

Leo Johansson, who started the season brilliantly, is also selected.

What does Mathias Fredriksson think about it?

- It was incredibly given, not at all surprising.

The squad in general is not surprising.

It is sad that some are missing due to injuries and illnesses.

It is a little weaker than we had hoped in advance.

What do you think about Leo Johansson's chances in Ruka?

- If he takes World Cup points, he does well, and I think he can succeed.

But more is so we should not hope or demand of him.

And the podium chances for the Swedish part?

- On the women's side, we definitely have podium chances.

We will have it every day, but on the men's side, it's a little surprising if we get someone on the podium.
