Ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl remains on the road to success with the Edmonton Oilers in the North American professional league NHL and is number one in the scorer list.

The international contributed one goal and one assist to the Canadians' 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Draisaitl's team set the course for victory in the first third, Edmonton took a 4-0 lead in the 19th minute before Draisaitl put the finishing touches in the last third.

The Oilers are still the leaders of the Pacific Division with 26 points, Draisaitl is still the best point collector in the league with 18 hits and 17 assists.

Lose Sturm and Seider

His congenial partner Connor McDavid is three points behind him, the Canadian also posted a goal and an assist and has scored points in all 17 games of the season so far.

It is the third longest series in the club's history: only ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was successful at the start of the season in 1983/84 (51 games) and 1982/83 (30 games).

Meanwhile, Nico Sturm missed out on Minnesota Wild's 4-5 defeat at the Florida Panthers, as did young star Moritz Seider when they lost 2-1 after extra time with the Detroit Red Wings at the Arizona Coyotes.

In the middle of the third round, the Red Wings were still 1-0 lead, but after 25 seconds in extra time, the Coyotes scored the winning goal.

Thomas Greiss was not used as a goalkeeper at Detroit.

Minnesota is still leader in the Central Division, Detroit fourth in the Atlantic Division.
