Eintracht Frankfurt have won their third competitive game in a row and have further increased their lead over the relegation zone of the Bundesliga.

The Hessians won 2-0 (2-0) at SC Freiburg on Sunday and are now five points ahead of the relegation rank.

Jesper Lindström (34th minute) and Filip Kostic (43rd) scored the goals for the guests in front of 32,500 spectators in the Europa-Park Stadium.

Freiburg suffered their second defeat of the season two weeks after the 2-1 draw at Bayern Munich.

They remain third in the table, but are now five points behind second-placed Borussia Dortmund.

Both teams started briskly and disturbed their opponents early in their half. A bad bad pass by Freiburg's Woo-yeong Jeong had no consequences (10th), shortly afterwards the busy Lindström SC keeper Mark Flekken checked from an acute angle (11th). It took the hosts a good quarter of an hour before they created a real goal danger - but then twice in a few minutes. First Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was challenged with a low shot by Lucas Höler (19th), then with a cross from Vincenzo Grifo, which had become longer and longer (25th).

Eintracht needed a bit of luck to take the lead in the game, which had been balanced until then. Before the 1-0 win by Lindström, the first competitive goal of the newcomer in the shirt of Hessen, opponent Lukas Kübler involuntarily spiked the ball into the Dane's barrel. When Kostic made it 2-0, a Serbian free kick from the right half-field flew over all players in the penalty area, hit the ground and then hit the left inner post into the net.

In the second half, Freiburg coach Christian Streich switched his system from three to four in a row.

U21 national striker Kevin Schade came on for defender Nico Schlotterbeck, whose use had been questionable due to muscular problems beforehand.

And Schade was right in the game: First the 19-year-old took out two free kicks, one of which Nicolas Höfler headed to the post (51st).

Then he missed a good chance to hit the next goal himself (55th).

There was now a lot of music in play on both sides: A shot by Grifo was just scratched off the line by the Frankfurt team (56th), while Lindström (57th) and Daichi Kamada (58th) missed good opportunities for Eintracht.

The Freiburg team also showed great morale in the closing stages, but ultimately missed the setting of a nine-year-old club record due to the defeat: they have only managed ten Bundesliga home games without defeat in a row in 2012 so far.

Eintracht, who had to do without defensive player Martin Hinteregger, who had been injured in the ankle, found room again after the last-minute win at Greuther Fürth (2: 1).

In the last 20 minutes - like against the Franks - their captain Sebastian Rode, who was plagued by knee problems, came into play.

Roland Sallai (knee problems) celebrated his short comeback at Freiburg.
