Romanian coach appointed to lead the Syrian national team

The temporary committee of the Syrian Football Association announced today the appointment of Romanian coach Valerio Tetsa as technical director of the first team, to replace the article, Nizar Mahrous.

The committee indicated that Titsa will arrive on Tuesday in the capital, Damascus, to officially assume the tasks, provided that the assistant technical staff as well as the administrative staff will be formed later.

Titsa had previously led the Syrian team to win the 2010 AFC Cup, and he also led the Syrian team for a short period during the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar, and was eliminated in the first round after defeating Saudi Arabia and losing to Japan and Jordan.

The committee had dismissed Mahrous and his technical staff after the 3-0 loss to Iran on Tuesday in Oman in the sixth round of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers "due to poor results".

Nizar Mahrous took over the training mission last July, succeeding the resigned Tunisian Nabil Maaloul.

The Syrian team occupies the last sixth place in the first group of the third and decisive round of the international qualifiers, with two points from two draws and four defeats, two rounds before the end.
