The coach of the national football team, Dutch Van Marwijk, used the services of 23 players during the six matches that "Al-White" played in the decisive round of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers, without holding on to one squad.

The Dutch coach relied on only three players who played all the matches: goalkeeper Ali Khaseef, right-back Bandar Al Ahbabi, and striker Ali Mabkhout, while the rest of the centers witnessed several changes, some of them for technical decisions and others due to injury or suspension.

Statistics and figures showed that Marvik played each match with a different squad without settling on a fixed lineup, which caused the team's performance to fluctuate in some matches, and reduced the chances of "Al-Abyad" in booking one of the two direct qualification cards for the World Cup and competing for the Asian supplement.

The team is currently ranked third among the teams in Group A with six points, after winning the last round against its host Lebanon, with a goal without a response.

The Dutch coach played a lot in the defense line, which witnessed many changes, with the exception of Bandar Al Ahbabi, who kept his position fixed in all matches, while left back Mahmoud Khamis played the first four matches in the qualifiers, before being replaced by Al Wahda defender, Mohamed Al Menhali.

Marvik relied on defenders Shaheen Abdel Rahman and Walid Abbas in the matches in Lebanon (in the first leg) and Syria, then excluded Walid Abbas against Iran, and relied on the young defender Mohammed Al-Attas alongside Shaheen Abdel Rahman, then the latter two fought together in the Iraq match.

The "Al-Abyad" coach returned to make major adjustments in the back line against South Korea, involving Muhammad Al-Attas, Walid Abbas in the center of the heart of the defense, and Muhammad Al-Menhali in the left-back position.

The matter did not differ much in the midfield position, and that Abdullah Ramadan remained the most player who participated in this position in five matches as a key player, and entered the first match against Lebanon as a substitute, as Al-Ahly youth player Majid Hassan appeared in four matches and moved away against South Korea And Lebanon in the return, and Abdullah Salmin played three games, and four games for the player Ali Salmin.

Lima also only played four matches before he was absent against South Korea and Lebanon due to injury, while Caio played five matches, and Ismail Matar and Muhannad Al-Anzi appeared in one match as key players.

Al-Awadi: The numbers are evidence that Marvik is not the right person to lead Al-Abyad

The former general supervisor of the ball in Baniyas Club, sports analyst, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi, described the decisions of the Dutchman, Bert van Marwijk, to use 23 players in only six matches as illogical.

He told "Emirates Today": "These numbers reflect one indication that Marvik is not the right person to lead (Al-Abyad), because he does not have technical convictions, and the evidence is that he plays each match with a different squad than the other."

He added, "Suppose that the Dutch coach has 23 players, all of whom are ready to participate in the matches. Why did we not see convincing interventions or effective changes for him during the qualifying matches?

On the contrary, most of the changes take place late in the matches, and their goals could have been achieved if they had taken place at early times, and the evidence for my words to the Tigali player, whose influence appeared in all the times he played.”

He continued, "Personally, I have reservations about Marvik's playing methodology, which is not commensurate with the capabilities and names in the national team. Why not play with the duo Tigali and Ali Mabkhout?

If he had done that, he would have reduced the pressure other teams were putting on striker Ali Mabkhout.”

He concluded: “With all due respect to Marvik’s history, we have made sure that this coach does not have any developed ideas, and that he will not help (Al-Abyad) to move forward, and it is better that he be changed in those times and take advantage of the World Cup qualifiers pause period of about two months, and the new coach will have the opportunity To fix the defects and problems that Al-Abyad is currently suffering from.”
