African boxing star Junior Makabu traveled to Mexico City to attend the conference of the World Boxing Council (WBC), one of the sport's four largest federations.

And the least we can say is that the Congolese are not leaving empty-handed.

Not only did he receive an award from the WBC, notably for bringing the Congo back to the top of Noble Art.

But, in addition, the world champion of the cruiser weights was rewarded with a potential fabulous fight against the superstar Canelo Alvarez.

Facing Canelo Alvarez in May or June 2022?

"

The Board of Governors of the World Boxing Council voted unanimously in favor of Saul Canelo Alvarez fighting for the WBC cruiserweight title in May or June

," a statement read.

This was suggested by his coach and manager Eddy Reynoso

 ”.

Canelo Alvarez is one of the greatest boxers of all time, world champion in four different weight classes.

After having recently dominated the American Caleb Plant in the super-middleweight, the Mexican should therefore move up two categories in 2022 to dethrone the Congolese.

Junior Makabu still has to defend his title in December 2021

On the condition that Junior Makabu is still the king of the WBC cruisers in a few months.

The one who won his title in January 2020 against the Polish Michal Cieslak and successfully retained it against the Nigerian Olanrewaju Durodola in December 2020 must defend it in December 2021 in Kinshasa.

Presumably facing South African Thabiso Mchunu.

Discussions will then be able to open for what would be the biggest challenge of the native of Kananga, author of 28 successes in 30 matches.
