2022 World Cup qualifiers: Ivory Coast cries "a lost dream"

The disappointment was in Ivory Coast on Wednesday, after the country's national team was eliminated from the African qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, by losing to Cameroon 0-1 in the last round of the second round.

It is the second time in a row that the "elephants" have been absent from the global wedding, after three consecutive participations from 2006 to 2014, and they were eliminated from the group stage.

Student Patrick Anderson-Abwa expressed his disappointment with his team's loss, saying, "It was enough for us to draw to qualify for the decisive round and give ourselves the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup. Unfortunately, the dream has been shattered for these young players."

The words of the former stars were similar, and former goalkeeper Alain Guamené said, "I was very disappointed to see my country miss the World Cup for the second time in a row. I cry for these young players who are defending the big European clubs and will follow the World Cup in Qatar 2022 on the small screen."

As for former national team midfielder Bonaventure Kalou, he said, "It is a great disappointment for Ivory Coast football. There is a big confusion in our ball that prevented us from qualifying," referring to the FIFA's appointment of a temporary committee to settle the crisis that arose regarding the presidency of the Ivory Coast.
