Following an own goal that deceived the goalkeeper, the defender raised his hand while claiming to be offside and committed an outrageous handball foul to score an additional goal from a penalty kick.

European champions Italy were knocked out of the playoffs after being drawn to Northern Ireland for second place in the group.
Switzerland, who defeated Bulgaria 4-0, jumped to the top of the group, overtaking Italy, and secured a direct ticket to the finals.
