Mikaela Mässing fought against the clock and fought to get ready to play before last summer's Olympics.

But when the squad was presented, the star was not present.

The 27-year-old tore off both ligaments and cruciate ligaments in his left knee and needed surgery.

After that, the rehabilitation went well and this summer she felt that she was on her way back.

But later it started to hurt in the knee and therefore she got magnetic X-ray gas.

- It turned out that I have large cartilage damage in the knee, both on the inside and behind the kneecap.

After that, I did physiotherapy to relieve the knee and build muscle around it, Mässing tells Handbollskanalen.

"Would never give up my career"

Rehabilitation continued - without success.

She is thus forced to go under the knife again.

What the operation will be has not yet been decided.

- It will be an initial peephole operation and then a decision on whether a smaller operation where the loose cartilage pieces are removed or a new operation where the loose cartilage is removed and placed on a membrane for the cartilage to grow back is enough.

The former operation is expected to require three to four months of rehab, while the second requires six.

She considers such a process to be self-evident.

- I would never give up my career just because a doctor says it is the best option.

Doctors only think of one's best, but I do not think they understand that they are talking to people who spend their whole lives in a sport.

Therefore, I will really give it a try to take me back.

Mässing has made 29 international appearances and today plays for Danish Kobenhavn, which she joined before the season.
