Aged 35, the former world number 1 in doubles accused, in early November on social networks, a former top Communist leader of having forced her into a sexual relationship, before making her his mistress.

This explosive accusation was briefly posted on November 2 on the official Weibo account (an equivalent of Twitter) of the specialist in doubles player and winner, in particular, of the Roland-Garros doubles tournament in 2014.

In a long text, Peng Shuai claimed to have had, three years ago, forced sex with former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, who was from 2013 to 2018 one of the most powerful politicians in China. . The player added that Zhang Gaoli's wife knew about it and "was on guard outside". As of November 4, China blocked any reference to this message attributed to Peng Shuai.

While censorship quickly wiped the message off the Chinese internet, screenshots spread like wildfire.

Since then, the player has not communicated or made a public appearance, and Zhang Gaoli has never publicly reacted to her accusations.

According to Weibo data, the message was viewed more than 100,000 times before it was deleted.

In the face of this silence, the hashtag #WhereIsPengShuai was picked up by hundreds of people, including many tennis stars. "Yes, these accusations are very disturbing. I have known Peng since she was 14, we should all be worried, this is serious, where is she? Is she safe?
