During his active career, he was active as a wing in the Waseda University rugby club and was selected as the representative of Japan.



In 1970, he became the director of the rugby club of his alma mater, and when he won the national university championship that decides the best university in Japan that year, he achieved a feat of defeating Nippon Steel Kamaishi at the Japan Championship at that time, where the championship team of the university and working people competed. ..



He was appointed as a coach four times at the university, leading to three national university championships in a total of eight years.



In addition, he also served as the coach of the Japanese national team three times, and in the 1983 Wales expedition, he played a close battle with the Wales national team with Seiji Hirao and others.
