Scotland book a place in the World Cup play-off

Right-back Nathan Patterson scored his first goal with Scotland and set up the other for his colleague Che Adams in a 2-0 victory over its host Moldova to book the visiting team a place in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March.

The 20-year-old Patterson ended the deadlock before the break and then set up Adams' second goal midway through the second half as Scotland secured an easy victory that secured them second place in Group F.

Scotland have 20 points from nine games and cannot be caught, nor can they pass Denmark, the leaders of the group, which visit Glasgow in the last match on Monday, which will be just a foregone conclusion for the two teams.

Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon saved a dangerous header to deny Moldova captain Artur Unita, but it was the visiting team that took a superb goal in the 38th minute.

Patterson received the ball from John McGinn inside the area and hit the goal with his left foot.

And then he made the second goal in the 65th minute after he again received a wonderful pass from McGinn and played a low cross to Adams, who put it in the net.

But things did not go well with the young player, as he touched the ball in the area to give Vadim Rata of Moldova the opportunity to reduce the difference with a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Gordon saved it.
