The rise in Corona injuries in China causes the Shanghai Marathon to be postponed

The Shanghai Marathon, scheduled for the end of this month, was postponed indefinitely due to the repercussions of the Corona virus pandemic and the high number of infections in China, which also led to the postponement of the Wuhan and Beijing marathons, according to the organizers announced today.

China is suffering from a rise in the number of infections with the outbreak of the delta mutant, which led to the imposition of new measures to curb the outbreak before the Winter Olympics in Beijing next February.

"Today we decided to be careful. We chose the safety and health of the runners and the citizens," the organizers said of the marathon, which was scheduled for November 28, to announce the new date at a later time.

The organizers did not announce the number of participants who were scheduled to compete in this year's edition, noting that the number reached nine thousand last year.

And the Wuhan and Beijing marathon organizers had previously announced their postponement last month.

Although the number of cases in China remains relatively low, with authorities reporting 54 infections on Wednesday, the country is taking a tough approach to fighting the pandemic and the government is particularly concerned about any impact on the February 4-20 Winter Games.
