Holder of an impressive collection of longevity records in women's football, the Brazilian Formiga, 43, will play her last national match on November 25 in a friendly match, her federation announced on Tuesday.

“The midfielder at 233 international matches will be back in the team to bid farewell in the shirt she has so honored,” the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) published in a statement.

This match against India will be the first of a friendly tournament that the Seleçao will play at the end of November in Manaus (north).

Formiga, who left PSG last June to sign for Sao Paulo FC until December 2022, is the only player to have taken part in all of the seven women's Olympic football tournaments in history, since the Olympic Games in 'Atlanta in 1996.

The legendary number 8 won two silver medals, in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, and was still starting on July 30 in Tokyo during the elimination of the Brazilians in the quarter-finals against Canada (0-0, 4 tab to 3).

Replaced during the match, she had given way to Angelina, a player 22 years younger.

Seven World Cups on the clock

Born in Salvador de Bahia (northeast), this inexhaustible midfielder made her debut with Seleçao in 1995, at the age of 17.

Formiga is also the only one to have participated in seven editions of the World Cup (1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019), men and women alike.

She is still to this day the oldest player to have evolved during a Women's World Cup (41 years old, in 2019) and also scorers (37 years old, in 2015).

“Formiga is one of the greatest players Brazil has known.

She has taken part in almost all the major competitions, ”summed up Duda Luizelli, coordinator of the women's selections of the CBF, during a press conference.
