American Frances Tiafoe beat Elias Ymer 6-4, 7-6 in the first round of the Stockholm Open.

Sweden runner-up Ymer, ranked only 167 in the world, received a wild card to the Stockholm Open after his higher ranked little brother Mikael refused to play in the tournament.

Since Tiafoe is ranked 41st in the world, it was clear that a big match was required of Elias Ymer, but the Swede let the American work for the advancement in the tournament.

The American broke the Swede's serve already in the first game and then won the first set 6-4 without behaving.

"I did not get up to level"

The second set also began with Tiafoe breaking the Swede's serve.

But the American then lost focus and invited Ymer into the match again after a few simple mistakes.

Ymer broke Tiafoe's serve game twice and went 3-1, before the American broke back.

The players were then followed to a tiebreak where Tiafoe got together and won 7-2.

- He is a quality player who plays well.

I did not get up to level, but all cred to him.

He did better, says Ellias Ymer in the victory interview on the court after the match.

The star makes his entrance on Tuesday

With Elias Ymer's loss, all Swedes are eliminated from the singles tournament in the Royal Hall.

The other Swede, Leo Borg, lost to the American Tommy Paul, who won 6-4, 6-2 on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the tournament's biggest poster name Andy Murray enters the tournament.

He meets Norwegian qualifier Viktor Durasovic.

If the Briton wins that match, first-seeded Jannik Sinner, Italy, awaits in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
