“I'm relieved to have finally found out why I haven't been feeling very well over the past two weeks.

OGC Nice center forward Kasper Dolberg announced on Instagram on Monday that he has type 1 diabetes, and will not play the next two international matches with Denmark, against the Faroe Islands and Scotland.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease requiring lifelong treatment with insulin.

"To [get] used to it, I decided with [the Danish coach] that I will not play for the national team this week," he adds.

The Danes, already qualified for the 2022 World Cup, host the Faroe Islands on Friday and will challenge Scotland on November 15.

"No negative effect on my career"

Dolberg was reassured about his future.

"The doctors confirmed to me that with the right treatment, it would have no negative effect on my career," said the striker.

Sports activity is generally recommended for patients.

This disease is no longer the cause of early retirement for the majority of top athletes.

Kasper Dolberg had to forfeit the match against Marseille (1-1) on October 27 and Angers (2-1) on October 31, due to “personal reasons” which forced him to a brief stay in Denmark.

Entered last Sunday, at the end of the Nice-Montpellier match (1-0 defeat), the semi-finalist of the last Euro said he felt good, and said he was satisfied to have been able to train all last week without disturbance. .
