Barcelona presents Xavi in front of thousands of club fans at Camp Nou
Barcelona presented its new coach Xavi Hernandez in front of thousands of club fans at the Camp Nou stadium on Monday.
The 41-year-old Barcelona legend signed his contract that extends to 2024 on the field, accompanied by club president Joan Laporta.
"It's a historic day for Barcelona," Laporta told fans at the presentation ceremony for the former midfielder, who was accompanied by his family. Welcome, Xavi.
"Thank you all," Xavi told the fans. "I don't want to get carried away by feelings but my body is shaking.
"It is the biggest club in the world and I will work hard to live up to the ambitions. Barcelona does not accept a draw or a defeat. We have to win all the matches."
Barcelona had announced that it had reached an agreement with its legend Xavi to coach the struggling team in the Spanish Football League until 2024, to succeed Dutchman Ronald Koeman.
The Qatari Al Sadd agreed to leave Xavi in the middle of the season and allow him to coach the Catalan team, which he played with for 17 years, after his rise from the junior sector.
Xavi joined after Barcelona paid the penalty clause in his contract with Al Sadd.
"I am very ready and ready," Xavi said. "We must be responsible and possess the ball in play, create chances and strive hard. We have a mission to restore many of the things that the club has lost."
Xavi returns to Barcelona after six years since his last match with the team when he beat Juventus in the 2015 Champions League final, which is the club's last title in the competition.
Barcelona is ninth in the league, 11 points behind leaders Real Sociedad and 10 points behind its eternal rivals Real Madrid.
