It was the decisive moment on this cup afternoon.

In the 55th minute of the game, Frankfurt defender Verena Hanshaw made a serious mistake: After a Bayern cross from the left, the ball jumped to her hip and from there to Klara Bühl, who was ready to shoot - 3: 1.

A score that could no longer be made up for Eintracht.

In the round of 16 of the women's DFB Cup, as on the previous Bundesliga matchday, when the Frankfurt women had a sensational 3-2 victory, Eintracht and the champions' team faced each other.

A top game that kept what the fans had hoped for.

And a game in which it was 4-2 for the favorites from Munich in the end.

After the international break with two successes of the women's national team against Israel (0: 1, 7: 0), both teams had some returnees.

During the week, four women from Frankfurt, Merle Frohms, Sjoeke Nüsken, Laura Freilang and Sophia Kleinherne, returned to training, while Bayern were five returnees.

Dominance of Bavaria

In the run-up, Eintracht coach Niko Arnautis had said: "We will be bold and brave right now, believe in ourselves and will make it as difficult as possible for Bayern." Frankfurt players left the Munich women in the first half.

The rotating trio of Dallmann, Magull and Bühl could move freely in these rooms.

It is true that Eintracht tried to press high from the start, which initially worked well.

It didn't take long, however, for FC Bayern to break free: In the fifth minute, Klara Bühl brought the ball in front of goal - Magull only hit the crossbar.

The dominance of Bayern manifested itself in 75 percent possession, as just one of the indicators. Again and again they came over the sides, including in the 27th minute: A precise submission from the far right, entered by Gwinn, completed Schüller with a volley to the deserved 1-0. Less than ten minutes later, Bühl prevailed against full-back Camilla Klüver and found Dallmann. National goalkeeper Frohms parried their conclusion, but she had to let the margin from Gwinn pass - 2-0 (38th minute).

“We didn't play badly in Frankfurt, but we discussed what we can do even better,” said Bayern coach Jens Scheuer regarding the last-minute defeat two weeks ago. He seemed to have found the right words. All the more surprising was a goal from Eintracht, which hit directly with the first shot on goal (42nd minute): Laura Feiersinger stuck to striker Nüsken after a counterattack at full speed. It stayed ice cold in front of the goal and shortened to 1: 2 from Frankfurt's point of view - the break. After the restart, the game lived mainly from nervousness and interruptions - until Verena Hanshaw made the same mistake that led to the 3-1.

For a while it looked like not much was going to happen. But in football things repeat themselves: Feiersinger was able to score 2: 3 in the 64th minute after a too central fist defense by Bayern goalkeeper Benkarth. The Austrian was disappointed after the game: “Because we were toxic and never gave up, we never gave the Munich women one hundred percent security. That it wasn't enough today is of course very bitter, ”said Feiersinger.

Bühl set the end of an entertaining game in the 78th minute with the 4: 2.

Arnautis did not blame his team after the final whistle: “We have shown strength of character again.

The fact that we were on it for over 90 minutes and made it extremely difficult for Bayern until the end speaks for our great performance, ”he said.

That could be built on.

This Friday, the Frankfurt women are in the Bundesliga as guests of the current cup winner VfL Wolfsburg.

In the 2020 DFB Cup final, the Hessians were only just under 0: 1 inferior to the Wolfsburg players.
