Lionel Messi missed Paris Saint-Germain training Thursday evening, while his colleague Kylian Mbappe was excluded from facing Lille, the defending champion in the French Football League, on Friday.

Mbappe also missed training and the club said the cause was an infection related to the respiratory system or the ears.

"Mbappe will resume training early next week," Saint-Germain said in a medical report that did not mention Messi.

The start of Argentine striker Messi has been volatile since joining Saint-Germain on a free transfer from Barcelona this season, as he scored 3 goals in the Champions League, while he failed to score in the French League in 4 matches so far.

Saint-Germain leads the French league standings with 28 points from 11 matches.
