Edson Álvarez has signed a new contract with Ajax.

The 24-year-old midfielder commits himself to the national champion until mid-2025.

His old contract expired in the summer of 2024.

Álvarez's contract extension comes as no surprise.

Last week, the Mexican international already announced that only a few details had to be finalized before he could put his signature.

Álvarez has been playing at Ajax since the summer of 2019, which took him over from Mexican Club América.

The team from Amsterdam paid a transfer fee of approximately 15 million euros.

After a difficult start, the right leg has become a fixed value in the team of trainer Erik ten Hag.

Last summer, Stade Rennais tried to free him from Ajax, but for director of football affairs Marc Overmars a departure was unnegotiable.

Álvarez has so far played 73 official matches in Ajax's first team and scored six goals.

He has scored twice in the Eredivisie this season.
