Liverpool star misses action due to Manchester United player's interference
Liverpool assistant coach Pep Linders said on Tuesday that midfielder James Milner will miss the international break next month after injuring his hamstring in a landslide 5-0 victory at Manchester United at the weekend.
Leanders said ahead of Wednesday's League Cup clash with Preston North End that midfielder Naby Keita had escaped a serious injury after a violent tackle from United's Paul Pogba, for which the France international was shown a red card.
Milner and Keita were replaced in the match at Old Trafford.
"Milner felt a stretch in his hamstring," Linders told reporters. "It looks like he'll be out until the international break.
“For Keita, I am very grateful for the video technology that helps protect the players.
"Maybe sometimes we don't like some of the decisions the VAR makes, but the technology is designed to protect players. It's fortunate for Keita that he only had a bruise."
Liverpool assistant coach said midfielder Thiago Alcantara was close to returning after suffering a calf injury, while Fabinho also recovered from a knee problem that led to his exclusion from the United game.
Liverpool host Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
