In two years, Mats Gren has missed a title with the then Kopparbergs / Gothenburg and the current BK Häcken.

Despite this, Häcken announced, in the middle of the ongoing Champions League group stage, that Mats Gren's expiring contract will not be extended.

And even though he felt that he would be allowed to leave, the news came that he would be allowed to leave with immediate effect unexpectedly.

- It came as a bit of a shock, says Gren to Göteborgs-Posten.

"They completely missed communication"

Mats Gren is critical of how Häcken has handled the situation and believes that the only thing he demanded was to get an early message about his future with the club.

- This summer, a chance appeared for me to move to a club in the Swiss second league.

Then Häcken refused to let me go, but they did not want to extend with me either.

He continues:

- 2.5 weeks after we went to the Champions League, Häcken said that they still needed more time.

They completely missed communication.

That's one thing I think is bad.

It took five weeks before Gren on Thursday received the message from sports director Martin Ericsson that he would leave - a decision that disappointed Gren.

- I had wanted to continue.

I wanted to continue working with the girls, but I can not be disappointed that they made the decision not to extend.

The hedge did not take me in from the beginning, they got me on the purchase, he says.

Martin Ericsson believes that the club's side tried to be out in as good a time as possible.

But that it was a very special situation in that an entire staff had an outgoing agreement.

- We still tried to be clear that all messages may not come as in normal cases when you only have something or some agreements that expire, says Ericsson.

Have a decision to make

What awaits Mats Gren next remains to be seen.

And it is not entirely obvious whether he will remain in the sport in which he has been active throughout his life.

- First I have to decide if I should stay in football.

When SVT Sport reaches Gren for an interview, he does not want to comment on the situation further.

"I have given my interview in GP and that is enough for me", he writes in a message to SVT Sport.
