The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship kicks off November 3 in Abu Dhabi

Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Head of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship (organized by the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation) will be launched and hosted by the United Arab Emirates from 3 to 11 November at the Jiu-Jitsu Arena in Medina. Abdel Moneim Al Sayed Mohammed Al Hashemi, President of the UAE and Asian Federations, and First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, stressed that His Highness Sheikh Khalid’s support for sports and athletes reflects the keenness of the wise leadership to enable the sons and daughters of the UAE to achieve excellence and leadership in various regional and global sports competitions, and to consolidate the distinguished position of the UAE within World jiu-jitsu map.

He added that the presence of the wise leadership behind the players is the biggest incentive for them to perform in the name of the UAE. Our children have the courage, will and determination to stand firm and keep up with the world's most prominent players on the rug. However, the leadership's support and its inspiring words represent the most important and effective factors in achieving the desired excellence.

Emirati talents are currently preparing during the tournaments and camps organized by the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation to follow the path of successes in winning medals and titles, with the aim of enhancing chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Games in the United States of America.

The national team is represented in the tournament by 61 players in the men's category, including 14 players in the adult category, 13 players in the youth category under 21 years, 16 players in the under-18 category, and 18 players in the under-16 category.

Women’s participation is no less important than their male counterparts, as 60 players from the national team participate in the women’s category, including 14 players in the adult category over 18 years, 14 players in the young women’s under-21 category, 16 players in the under-18 category, and 16 A player in the under-16 category.

The players of the national team participating in the tournament have great motives to achieve victory and brilliance, which they derived from the strength of performance and the quality of results in the fifth edition of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship that was held in Abu Dhabi last September, after winning the largest number of medals among the participating teams with a total of 18 medals, including four gold and four Silver and ten bronze.

On the visit of His Highness Sheikh Khalid to the training of the national team, which is preparing to participate in the upcoming tournaments, His Excellency Al Hashemi said that this dear visit is the best evidence that the wise leadership is closely following the development witnessed by the Emirates Global Jiu-Jitsu Project, and it bears indications and affirmations of the leadership’s vision. With regard to providing all the ingredients for strengthening the national talents’ march, encouraging young people to practice sports, and expanding the base of jiu-jitsu practitioners, as this has significant positive effects on society.

His Excellency added that His Highness' diligent follow-up to the role of the Federation and his keenness to be present among the players contributes to consolidating our efforts to transform the vision into reality in terms of consolidating Abu Dhabi's position as a home for jiu-jitsu, and enhances our sense of responsibility to provide an exemplary environment that contributes to preparing a generation of champions, and also represents an incentive and a source of inspiration.
