Hwang Seon-woo (18 years old, Seoul Chegogo), a new symbol of Korean swimming, took first place in the 200m freestyle in the short course competition where he first participated in the reverse race and won his first international gold medal.

Hwang Seon-woo took first place in the men's 200m freestyle final on the last day of the 3rd round of the FINA Management World Cup 2021 held at the Hamad Aquatic Center in Doha, Qatar with a time of 1:41.17.

Seon-Woo Hwang finished second behind South Africa's Matthew Seitz, but came back in the last 50m and won his first gold medal.

Seits took second place with a time of 1:41.33, 0.16 seconds behind Hwang Seon-woo.

Ho-Jun Lee (Daegu City Hall), who played in the final, took 6th place with a time of 1:44.91, and Seung-Woo Moon (Jeonju City Hall) took ninth place with a time of 1:50.56.

The Management World Cup is a short course event held in a 25m long pool, not the Olympic standard 50m regular course (long course).

This is the first time Hwang Seon-woo has competed in a short course competition, and this is the first time she has won a gold medal in an international competition, both in the long course and in the short course.

This time Hwang Seon-woo's record is a good record, only 0.14 seconds behind the Asian record (1:41.03) set by Park Tae-hwan when he won the 13th FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 2016.

Hwang Seon-woo, whose main events are 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle, previously won bronze medals in 100m individual medley and 100m freestyle in succession.

Hwang Seon-woo, who finished the tournament with a gold medal, said through his management company All That Sports, "I am happy to have achieved a satisfactory result of winning a gold medal in the main event."
