At the end of last season, the form of Hanna Öberg declined.

The team around her came to the conclusion that during periods she had had low energy availability - or what we in everyday speech call energy deficiency.

- I would say that I have a pretty good knowledge of how much I have to eat and how much energy I have to replenish when I train and compete.

But last winter I had some competitions where I could dig a little deeper and get out a little more, says Hanna Öberg.

- It required a higher level of recovery.

I did something as usual, while something a little extra was required and that is probably what we came to, she continues.

Diet registration has led to adjustments

Hanna Öberg and her dietitian Linda Bakkman, who works for the Swedish Olympic Committee, have come to the conclusion that it was most likely already last summer a period when she did not get enough food and energy in relation to the energy she made of with during the workouts.

- I must not be careless.

I might have let go of that focus 100 percent, knowing that I'm on the right side.

The national team riders regularly do different types of examinations and measurements to ensure that the energy intake, over time, is as it should be.

During a period this spring, Hanna did, among other things, a diet registration.

All food was weighed on a scale, ingredients and quantity were entered into an app and based on that information, they could, among other things, calculate the energy intake.

Öberg has, for example, seen that she has to get more food during the late evening coffee to keep the energy level high enough during the night and she has also increased her energy intake during certain types of workouts.

- Especially during the strength sessions, where I have not really used that much of sports drinks before, I have now gone up and drink sports drinks even during those sessions, Hanna says.

"Hopefully I will not end up there again"

The plan this summer and autumn has been to correct so that the energy intake now provides extra margins for the upcoming season with the Olympics in Beijing in February.

- So ready I have this with me and have learned something from it, so hopefully I will not end up there again.

And I would have done it, yes as it was, last year, than it would have been this winter, says Öberg
