Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra revealed - in an interview with the British newspaper The Times today, Friday - that he was sexually abused by a teacher when he was 13 years old.
Evra detailed the incident in his autobiography, "I Love This Sport."
Evra, 40, said that although it was difficult to talk about the abuse during the interview, he found it even more difficult to reveal it to his mother, who only knew about it two weeks ago.
"Of course, my mother hurt a lot to find out. It was a very difficult moment for me. I don't want people to feel pity. It is a difficult situation. A mother does not expect to hear that from her child," added Evra, who has played 81 games for France.
He added, "It was a big shock for her. She got angry. She said she was sorry. She asked me not to reveal the incident in my resume because it is a personal and sensitive matter, but I told her that it was not about me, Mom, but to educate other children. that".
Evra said he had not considered filing a formal complaint, but his mother encouraged him to sue the perpetrator.
Evra joined United in 2006 and won 5 Premier League titles and one Champions League title.
He later played for Juventus, Marseille and West Ham United, before retiring from football in July 2019.
