After the European athlete title of 2021, Sifan Hassan also has a chance to win the prize for the world athlete of the year.

The Dutch is one of the ten nominees after her excellent season.

In addition to Hassan, Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah (the Olympic champion in the 100, 200 and 4x100 meters) and Faith Kipyegon from Kenya (the Olympic champion in the 1,500 meters) are among the nominees.

The list has been compiled by experts from all over the world.

The 28-year-old Hassan became Olympic champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters last summer.

The Ethiopian-born took bronze in Tokyo in the 1,500 meters, behind Kipyegon, among others.

Hassan was the first athlete to combine the three distances in a championship.

She also ran a world record in the 10,000 meters in Hengelo at the beginning of June, although she lost that record to Letesenbet Gidey from Ethiopia within a few days.

Last weekend, Hassan was already voted the best European athlete of 2021 at a gala in Lausanne. The presentation of the World Athletics Awards is in December.
